Specialist Office Furniture Manufacturer

A specialist manufacturer of contract office furniture keen to move away from solvent contact adhesives.

A specialist manufacturer of contract office furniture was keen to move away from solvent contact adhesives and approached us for more environmentally-friendly solutions.

Our expert team guided them throughout the whole process to becoming more sustainable. The specialist is now ISO 14001 Environmental Management certified, which recognises their efficient use of resources.

Background

As a Redwood client for many years, the eco-conscious manufacturer of contract office furniture, specialising in office screens and seating, was already buying PVA and solvent contact adhesive, but trusted us with their vision of becoming more environmentally-friendly and sourcing alternative products.

Challenge

The company was looking to get the right sustainable products, without impacting on quality or results.

The key challenge was to ensure they understood the differences between solvent and water-based solutions, as well as offering potential ways they could lessen their impact on the environment.

Solution

Having worked with the specialist for many years, they asked us about using a water-based sprayable contact adhesive, as an alternative to solvent contact adhesives they were currently using.

Our technical team visited them on-site to discuss alternatives and to make sure they understood the different processes involved when using solvent and water-based contact adhesives.

Once our expert team had assessed the situation, the next step was to send the manufacturer a sample kit to trial. We returned soon after to help with spraying set up and the client was pleased with the results.

Outcome

The specialist found the water-based contact adhesive worked really well on soft and hard seating and began using it immediately. They will gradually replace all solvent contact adhesives with this water-based product.

They are now looking at using our Eco Crates, as an ideal eco alternative to traditional IBCs for PVA adhesives.

Eco Crates are fully reusable, reduce waste and incredibly space-efficient. Like IBCs, they can be stacked with a forklift. But the outer shells of the Eco Crates collapse when the liner is removed, so they’re only a third of their previous size.

At Redwood, we are proud to have supported the specialist manufacturer throughout the whole process and helped their business become more sustainable.

The specialist office furniture manufacturer is now ISO 14001 Environmental Management certified, which recognises their efficient use of resources and the reduction of waste.
